Trick or Read is an annual Denver event held before Halloween. Its mission is to spread books and the love of books. Attendees donate new or gently used children’s books which are then divided into bags for attendees with trick or treaters to give out along with candy on Halloween. Trick or Read annually collects and distributes hundreds of books throughout the Denver area.
The annual party includes giveaways of books donated by authors and furnished by Trick or Read’s founder and sponsor, David R. Slayton. These books highlight lesser known works for every age and books by authors of marginalized backgrounds. Giveaway books include a bookmark encouraging the reader to leave reviews and share the book with others.
Everyone is encouraged to participate in Trick or Read by giving books with candy to trick or treaters on Halloween.
